Spring update

Thanks to all of those who chose to support the Irish Cancer Society in the last few months, becasue of your donation we have been able to provide vital services to everyone in Ireland that is living with cancer, or is concerned about cancer.

Ireland’s cancer rate is very high. It is estimated that one in three people will develop cancer during the course of our lifetime and 30,000 people alone will be diagnosed with cancer this year alone. These stark figures mean that the funds raised are essential if the Society is to continue the meet the demand for its range of free nationwide patient care services.

The Irish Cancer Society’s core mission is to play an important role in achieving world-class cancer services in Ireland, to ensure fewer people get cancer and those that do, have better outcomes.

  • In 2011 our specialist cancer nurse supported over 22,000 callers to our National Cancer Helpline which was an increase up from 21,000 calls in 2010.
  • In 2011 our night nurses looked after 2,000 people with advanced cancer and their families in their own homes.
  • In 2011 we provided just over €1m worth of financial aid to people that have been diagnosed with cancer who are personally unable to meet a financial burden that arises out of a diagnosis or treatment of cancer across the country.
  • Finally the Irish Cancer Society is incredibly proud of it’s funding of cancer research across the country and has invested approximately €3.1 million last year in cancer research.

The funds we recieve from Global Giving go directly towrads providing these services for cancer patients and their families in ireland- so thank you for your support!
