Challenge

Indigenous women in impoverished communities in Mexico have already saved money and successfully started their own small businesses through their participation in IMIFAP's microfinance and life skills, "I want to, I can" programs. They have improved their families lives by creating and selling their products in their communities and local markets. The next step is to foster sustainability and growth: by scaling-up their businesses, these women will increase their profits 10 fold.

Solution

Women from 10 successful community businesses will receive "I want to, I can" trainings on how to standardize their production, & receive small loans so that their products will reach national markets through an agreement with the Walmart Foundation.

Long-Term Impact

As jointly owned, community businesses, revenues will have a long-term impact on about 200 families. The interest on loans repaid to IMIFAP will be reinvested to start new microfinance projects making the program cyclical and sustainable.
