This project will build a one storey building which will contain dormitories for both disadvantaged girls and boys as well as their library, to improve their quality of life and allow them to achieve their aspirations. These facilities will enable them to escape from the near by Kampala slum, providing a sanctuary for learning and living environment.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The number of orphans at Linnet has been increasing by 10% every year. There are 270 orphans at Linnet due to neglect, abandon and HIV/AIDS epidemic, resulting in children ending up on streets, lack of education, security and sense of belonging. These children are vulnerable and at high risk to exploitation and all types of abuse. This project will benefit some of the most vulnerable children and from long distance to enable them achieve education and shelter.
How will this project solve this problem?
This long waited project will provide children with a secure learning environment and a roof over their head throughout their primary education. Teachers and volunteers will be able to plan and make good use of the limited school resources to benefit all the children at the same time. We also hope to dramatically boost attendance and decrease children absence as some families fails to prove reasonable shelter due to poverty.
Potential Long Term Impact
Secure living and education experience for victims of HIV - AIDS, orphaned, neglected and abandoned children from Kampala slums and Kazo community, paving way to escaping extreme poverty and increasing chances of a better literate future which will enable these few members of the community maximize their potential in the competitive world.
