Healthcare Volunteer Uganda (HVU) is a registered not-for-profit charity based in the rural districts of Mubende & Kassanda in Central Uganda. The NGO targets aiding Orphans & Vulnerable Children (OVCs) as well as women living with HIV/AIDS in hard to reach areas.HVU provides comprehensive services to OVCs & other community members. Our main activities are volunteering programs, receiving & donating medical supplies to health centres providing health services/education, & HIV/AIDS sensitization!
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Rural communities have little to no access to healthcare more so within the OVC population. This is a scenario that is replicated within many provincial areas within Uganda and sub-Saharan Africa. Nutritional support for patients is lacking and ways to generate income and sustain their well being is also a problem due to economic hardship and societal isolation. Healthcare to HIV/AIDS patients and prevention of disease transfer is also another issue haunting all community members.
How will this project solve this problem?
a)To empower and advocate for the health and well being of orphaned & vulnerable children through community health education and economic development programs. b)To prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS among young people and the general population using evidence- informed programming. c)To improve the quality of life for people living with HIV and AIDS through providing HIV/AIDS, counseling, care and referral treatment. d)To provide psycho-social support to people living with HIV/AIDS PLWHIV
Potential Long Term Impact
a)To promote and network with the country's health facilities in promoting community access to health services. b)To identify opportunities in the underprivileged areas nationwide that would benefit from working with our health volunteers. c)To increase access to health volunteering services to the underserved areas by providing an avenue for any volunteers interested in health promotion to find an appropriate volunteering opportunity that fits their interest and profession.
