Hurricane Sandy struck the east coast of the United States in late October 2012, sadly we are still recovering all this time later. The cost of damages was around $68 billion, the second most in US history. The loss of life was even more devastating and no monetary amount can alleviate the suffering of families affected in such a way. To date, through your incredible donations, GlobalGiving has raised $612,645 to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy! Your donations are doing amazing things for our partner organizations!
At Architecture for Humanity there are ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure design and facilities in towns affected by Sandy. In Seaside Heights, New Jersey they are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to design a brand new Events Center. They are also reaching out to locals to help design and implement this structure! There is a scheduled Community Open House on February 4th from 5:30-7:30, they are very open to and, grateful for community participation in rebuilding the towns!
The organization Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S) has raised over 20 million dollars so far for basic essentials, like clothing, books, educational materials, shoes, and baby products! They are doing an incredible job! It is donations like yours that make their work possible! In their latest report K.I.D.S talks about all of their upcoming initiatives including their Extreme Home Makeover project. This program seeks to restore, repair, and refurbish the homes that were heavily damaged by Sandy. There are still many homes in disarray, even so long after the disaster struck. But through K.I.D.S and their home makeover initiative they are giving families the opportunity to return home, which is insurmountable important!
It is thanks to the amazing donors like you that Sandy relief projects are still going on! Families still need your help, thank you so much for continuing to provide it!
