Summary

In partnership with the World Health Organization, we will deliver medical equipment and supplies to Cuban hospitals gravely damaged by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Dozens of hospitals and clinics in Cuba have been seriously damaged by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. "This devastation has left hospital staff unable to meet the medical needs of their patients and have thus put thousands of lives at risk," said Kathleen Hower, Executive Director. Global Links, one of a few federally licensed programs working in Cuba since 1994, is in a unique position to offer immediate and long-term assistance to support public health in the country.

How will this project solve this problem?

Strategic Donations of Medical Materials: “The impact of the donations that you have made has been fundamental to the solution of some prioritized problems in the Health System of Cuba.--Dr. Patricio Yepez, PAHO/WHO Representative (2004)

Potential Long Term Impact

The Global Links project will allow Cuban hospitals to recover from the devastation caused by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, thereby ensuring adequate and life-saving healthcare for thousands of Cubans in both the short and long term.

Project Message

"Ike's passing has had an enormous impact on infrastructure including hospitals and clinics….Thank you for all your support which is fundamental to the Cuban people."
- Doctor Lea Guido, PAHO/WHO Rep., Havana, Project Partner
