Trickle Up will help 500 low-income entrepreneurs in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Business training and conditional seed capital will help them start or expand a small business.
As people affected by Hurricane Katrina search for ways to rebuild their lives, it is crucial that those with nothing--no collateral, no records and even no address--are given the chance to begin again. Many have expressed their desire to start up a business of their own. But jobs are not always easy to come by in the areas of the Delta, already poor and with high unemployment, where Trickle Up is active. 500 low-income people will be given training and seed capital.
Trickle Up has 10 partners in the region, with dozens of professional business trainers ready to provide support through the Trickle Up business plan. Also, will provide training and conditional $700 business grants.
Entrepreneurs will grow their businesses, reduce their dependence on public assistance and increase their family income. Small local businesses will revitalize poor neighborhoods and provide vital local services.
