Promote Child Rights Awareness in Uganda

By Project Implementation team | LUYUDAAC

The quarter has been quite critical in Child Rights Awareness Creation.

We successfully held a number of awareness meetings, sensitization and mobilizations  and outreaches in the local communities, Schools, trading centers, villages around and House-To-House  sensitizing them  basically on :-

a) Survival rights: These are basic rights which a child needs to survive/live e.g food, medical care, clothing, shelter, parental care.

b)Protection rights: A child needs these rights in order to be safe and secure such as,

Right to: life and liberty; name and nationality; no abuse & discrimination; free from child labour & exploitation.

c) Development rights: A child has a right to develop mentally, physically, socially, and culturally. This included Right to: education; information; rest; recreation.

As a result, successes achieved by our work include the improving the well being of children by providing basic services to Orphans, Vulnerable children ( OVCs) and other neglected children, in primary schools.

Child protection to ensure that OVCs and other children to school, stay in school as well as living in a good environment that doesn’t affect their up bringing.

By that guardians and parents do provide them with basic scholastic materials and lunch children can now stay in school as a result of the intervention of LUYUDAAC.

As a result of our program  interventions, 200 OVCs and other children who had been neglected and denied Education, have now been enrolled to Benamos primary School for Orphans and Vulnerable children.

Challenges

-        Inadequate funds for the project.

-        Staff capacity development highly needed.

-        Limited synergies with other development partners especially at the international level for sustainability of the program.
