The project will fund a computer lab for the Foundation for Participatory Research with Honduran Farmers and provide computer literacy and journalism workshops for youth.
“We have a serious problem,” says Marvin Gomez, Regional FIPAH Coordinator. “The majority of farmers that are participating in [FIPAH’s] activities are 50 or 60 and the productive food system depends on these people.” The Nourish project focuses on engaging the younger generation in FIPAH’s work. Workshops facilitate the sharing of young farmers' research and access to information. The intersection of technology and agronomy is important to the youth growing up in a world of hyper-connectivity.
Nourish will set up a computer lab and develop workshops on the use of Microsoft Office, Internet literacy, photography, and reporting. We will make the project sustainable by training local youth to continue leading the workshops.
Engaging the youth of the community will ensure a lasting commitment to sustainable farming traditions, food sovereignty, and participative research. The community can use the technology to enhance the research and access a new forum for their ideas.
