Happy New Year and thank you for the difference you've helped make this year!
The good news: During 2012 the number of cats we were able to help increased compared to 2011. This is the second year in a row that our numbers have climbed since 2010 when the recession hit. Thanks to our loyal supporters and dedicated volunteers this year we took in 432 cats. Of these, 377 found their permanent adoptive homes during 2012. Those who are still waiting for just the right family are in the care of our loving foster parents. We are also happy to announce the expansion of our rescue/adoption efforts through the addition of a new adoption location in partnership with Suzie's Cat Rescue. The new location in the Sports Arena PetSmart placed 114 cats and kittens in addition to our numbers.
One special cat who took quite a while but finally found the perfect home is Ricky. We rescued Ricky from the local pound, where he was dumped by his owners when he was 5 years old. Nearly all our volunteers got to know Ricky, a 17-lb. gray tabby lug who likes to climb up and “perch” on the nearest set of cat-friendly shoulders and cuddle one's neck. Ricky is a sweetheart, but unfortunately he often became depressed during his frequent visits to busy adoption centers and it took over a year before the perfect family came along. Now Ricky is the newest addition to a family who adores him and he is loving his new forever-home.
As 2013 gets under way, we'd like to share our New Year's Goal: In 2013 we aim to help 500 cats. We cannot make the difference we do without you, and we sincerely appreciate your ongoing support. From everyone here at San Diego Cat AdopTion Service, Happy New Year and all the best to you and yours!
