Summary
We provide 450 homeless people with football training, coaching, training and qualification as referees and the support they need to come off drugs and alcohol, find jobs, homes, and get an education.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
We address homelessness and drug dependency in Dublin, Ireland providing football training, coaching, referee qualifications and support to come off drugs, alcohol, move into homes, education, repair relationships and improve their lives.
How will this project solve this problem?
We run 3 football training sessions per week plus the opportunity to take coaching and referee courses. A national football championship involves 35 teams and 450 players with the chance to represent Ireland at the Homeless World Cup.
Potential Long Term Impact
In 2008 we plan to set up regular Street Leagues in two more cities in Ireland plus two all Ireland football tournaments to involve 1000 players per year in football coaching, training and support to come off drugs and alcohol, get jobs, homes.
Project Message
Everything is left on the sideline as soon as you walk on that pitch. Getting to play for your country, flying your flag, it’s a dream come true. My mum is going to be so proud.
