Earthquake Reconstruction for At-Risk Children

Restoring Walls, Rebuilding Hope

In the past three months, VE Global has taken the many generous donations and support offered from around the world and put them into action: debris clearing, wall repairing, reconstructive action! Two children's shelters, a community center and a day care in a shantytown have all received post-earthquake aid from our volunteers and other supporters. Five different universities, including Texas State University and Harvard, lent a hand in the repairs. These human resources, compounded by the incredible in-kind and monetary donations we've received, have allowed us to carry out such projects as those at Hogar Pléyades.

Hogar Pléyades is a children's shelter, home to ten children under the age of eleven who have been removed from their families due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. The structure the children live in was badly damaged by the earthquake, with the internal walls badly damaged in addition to an external wall completely destroyed, which left the children in a vulnerable and precarious situation. VE Global was able not only to remove the fallen plaster and rubble from the home, but repair and fully restore the walls inside the home. A team of volunteers painted the newly plastered walls a cheery yellow to encourage a lively atmosphere for the children. Additionally, VE has secured funding to fully rebuild the fallen external wall, and is in the process of arranging its reconstruction.
