Working toward Safety and Stability

By Anne Rondoni | Coordinator of Marketing and Communication

In the month since the earthquake, VE volunteers have been working tirelessly with the affected children and in the homes they live in. Hazardous material and excess debris have been cleaned up, and the buildings have been evaluated for external structural damage even amidst several strong aftershocks. We are closely monitoring the status of the homes, and hope to bring in contracted engineers as soon as possible.

We have continued to work with the children on a daily basis, providing comfort and stability in a volatile time. VE has teamed up with Red Cross Chicago and is in the final stages of formalizing a post-disaster therapy and survival education curriculum. More details to come regarding the planned repairs to the institutions and the emotional survival curriculum for the children.
