Dear Friends of the West,
We could never have expected such a tremendous showing of support and generosity as we received this Holiday Season from all of our dear supporters and donors. This Holiday Season, with your help, we brought joy and gifts to over 150 children through sponsorship of wish lists and giving trees.
The women and children who reside at the West took part in many festive activities such as: Holiday meals; shopping sprees for their family; gingerbread house making; caroling with the Oregon Symphony; Holiday parties, which connected generations of current and past residents of the West; and attendance at plays and events in the community, such as the Nutcracker Ballet.
We also look forward to this New Year with our supplies in abundance due to the numerous gifts towards our ‘Needs Lists ’. We have a wall of donated toilet paper, which brought tears to our eyes, knowing that instead of purchasing such items we can put our resources towards advocacy, client assistance for rent or other needs, and occupancy costs in order to serve more women and children in need in 2011.
Residing at a domestic violence shelter during the Holidays can make for the most trying of times. Without a home to call their own and in fear of their family’s safety, we often hear from residents that their Holiday here at The West was the “best they ever had”; and this is because of your kindness and generosity. Thank you!!!!
