HIV+ Recipient of SCC Services

HIV+ Recipient of SCC Services
This mother recently learned she had HIV when she discovered that her first husband died of AIDS. Her eldest child is also HIV+. She was referred to SCC by a local monk so we went on a field visit to her home in a remote village. She told us that her baby is healthy (6 months) but that she cannot afford to buy formula to feed him. She must breastfeed him instead. She knows that this increases her risk of transmitting HIV to her baby. But she has to choose - let her child starve or potentially give him HIV? She was completely devastated by all that has happened to her. She started crying when we came to see her and claimed she was just so happy that SCC came there to help her.
