Bulletin News June 2014

We are pleased to share with you last month´s activities!

From Volunteering to Change of Perspective

Andrés Alizaga. He is a business management´s student at UCR. He has been doing his community service with us for almost 8 months.   He helped in activities such as: volunteering, social networks administrator, graphic design, fundraising, and he did, with other partners, an excellent Christmas campaign at the UCR (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ui6rhmm6PMk&feature=youtu.be). He told us about some of his experiences in the NGO and he said the following:

A volunteering experience that had a positive impact in your life:

“When a child told me that he got a good grade in his math exam for my help, it was a nice experience and it motivated him to keep on with math.”

Also, Andrés participated in the Christmas party and he was so happy when children got their gifts

Why did you participate in our Volunteering Program?

“Because BWAB has several alternatives to help them, such as: campaign, tutoring programs and for this reason, I have done a lot of helpful activities.”

How did BWAB change your life?

“It has been a really enriching experience. I got new opportunities to help people and the volunteering has been a very nice experience for me, because I had never done that before”

Good News! BWAB is part of ConSoc

Recently, BWAB has been admitted as a ConSoc member. It has the task to participate in the creation of Inter- American Development Bank´s policies to the country. It is good news for us and we want to share with you our happiness and pride.

Triángulo de la Solidaridad Community´s Eviction

The last June 25th we were informed about the Triángulo de la Solidaridad community´s eviction, where we have worked for 6 years.

The government is looking for housing solutions to families who live in the community and after that, they will begin the relocation process.

Triángulo de la Solidaridad community has 524 families; most of them are composed of Nicaraguans.  This community has 15 years of existence.  The reason of the eviction is a new highway´s construction.

If you want to learn more about our activities, we invite you to read our monthly newsletter and see our Facebook, Web Site and You Tube.

Bulletin News May 2014

We’re very excited to be able to tell you about all the NGO’S activities this past May.

Our Work

We work in communities at risk, because on those places there’s violence, unemployment, drug trafficking, dropout and other kinds of social problems.  Our purpose is to build-up leaders to fulfill their dreams, goals, transform their community and support them throughout this journey.

How do we do?

  • First, we get into the communities, we don´t expect people to visit our foundation, and for that reason we have a community-center inside the neighborhood.
  • We build friendships, because we want to know their needs.
  • We develop community leaders, because they can motivate others for change and to make a difference.

IBM Professional Training Program

IBM Company is starting a program with 15 university students to help them in topics such as: time management, customer service, communication and resolution of problems.

The objectives of the project are:

  •  Help students to understand the relation between university and a formal job.
  •  Help students to develop their professional growth plans.
  •  Allow IBM´s workers use their time and skills in a social project.

Currently, there are 90 mentors that will help in this project during 6 months.

Testimony of Professional Women

The “Girls Group” has existed for 4 years in “El Triángulo” and for 2 years in Los Cuadros de Guadalupe. Most of the participants want to study in the university and for this we are inviting professional women to share experiences and motivate them to follow their goals.

The last May 16th, we had the first experience with an architect.  It was a nice experience, because the girls learned more about this career and the college.

Donations:

Last month, we received several donations! We received “foosball” in excellent condition from a volunteer. Also, we got school uniforms donated by Lincoln High School and finally, a donation of $ 500.

We thank you very much for your help and donations. We encourage you to keep donating to our cause and to motivate others to do the same.

BWAB Global's New Website is Almost Here

Hey everyone,

Thank you again for joining us in the exciting process of setting up a new web presence for Boy With a Ball Global.  As you have probably heard us say before, Boy With a Ball Global's international work to reach and help young people and to find people who will invest in this work requires the ability to show people our work.  A website is the number one way to connect people in this way and it is particularly effective across great geographic distances.

We have been notified by Giles-Parscale, our designer, that they are in the final week or so of setting up the site.  At that point, we will enter in all of our content and move into testing to make sure everything works.  If all goes well, we could be a just a month or so away from the site going live!

As this is happening, we have moved our global offices to Atlanta and have established a new US Boy With a Ball local organization, Boy With a Ball Atlanta.  Additionally, we are in talks regarding expansion into Lebanon, Nigeria, Kenya, Peru and more.  This is a big time for us and this website will be a huge help.

Thank you so much for your help and investment in this.  We could not do what we do without you doing what you did.  You are truly giving "through us" to young people around the world.

 Thank you,

Jamie Johnson

Update on Boy With a Ball Global's New Website

A sneak peek at a rough draft of our new website!
A sneak peek at a rough draft of our new website!

Boy With a Ball Global is now more than a month into the design process on our new website with the design company, Giles-Parscale, due to your generosity and investment in this project!  You can be the first to see a sneak peek of what the new design will look like below as a reward for your part in this critical process for the future of our organization.

Now that the basic layout has been approved, Giles-Parscale is working to build the site out and we hope to see it launched at some point in the summer.  We will keep you posted!

This site will coincide with Boy With a Ball Global's offices moving to Atlanta, Georgia.  This is an exciting time and we are so thankful for your partnership in helping us!

We are still $2,500 away from having everything we need to finish the project so tell your friends about what we are doing and see if they would like to be involved.  We are also looking for helping in making a two minute video about our organization that will be a key part in this new site so let us know if you know anyone you think would be a good fit in working with us on this video.

If you have any questions or thoughts, just email us at info@boywithaball.com.

Sincerely,

Jamie
