This program will empower otherwise socially excluded women financially and mitigate the costs of importing food. The bakeries will strengthen Sudanese communities and transform women into leaders.
A massive civil war has raged in the Sudan for the past 40 years. It is estimated that as a result of the civil war two million have died and four million have fled their homes. Women have been especially affected by the conflict. Rape, starvation, abduction are daily concerns for the average Sudanese women. Many do not have access to health care, education, or even clean water. Most are illiterate, emotionally wounded and physically exhausted.
This project will give women the means to support their families financially and improve food security in their communities. 92% of program participants in Sudan report an improvement in their economic situation.
This program's positive benefits will ripple throughout Sudanese communities as women use their incomes to feed and school their children. The impact of this project will span generations. Strong women create strong nations.
