This program will teach 400 women to farm poultry in Nigeria, allowing them to support their families. By empowering women financially this project will revitalize Nigerian communities.
In past years Nigeria has suffered continual instability due to conflicts between tribes, corrupt military leaders, and poor economic policy. Famine and poverty are facts of life for many Nigerians; however women, who are often economically dependent on men and cannot inherit, are especially affected. In some communities women also face child marriages, genital cutting, and legalized domestic violence.
This project will empower woman by training them in the poultry business, and assisting them in the creation of poultry cooperatives with other women. As a result, women can support their families financially as well as provide fresh, local poultry.
By empowering women financially, Women for Women will help to stabilize the economy of their community. Within the poultry cooperative the women can increase their overall profit and expand their small businesses.
