Can you believe it's September already? The year has flown by so fast, yet there's so much more to do to ensure even more Americans go to bed with a good meal in their bellies. I'm pleased to announce that Move For Hunger just turned 3 years old a few weeks ago. In that time we have grown to work with over 350 moving companies and 180 real estate professionals in 44 states across the US. And it's official: we have now delivered over 700,000 lbs of food - which is enough to provide over 500,000 meals to those in need!
We had an incredibly busy summer of food drives. In fact, we held close to 40 food drives between May and August across the country. We're lined up to hold 15 for the month of September and hopefully another 15 for October. These food drives help us raise greater awareness about hunger while engaging different members of the community to take action! If you are interested in holding a food drive, please email Amy at Events@moveforhunger.org
We've launched a Real Estate Program which is rapidly gaining steam. Realtors across the nation are joining our efforts and becoming a force in our hunger relief efforts. Realtors meet with their clients regularly and have a unqiue opportunity to educate them about the needs facing their communities. If you are a realtor interested in joining our fight, Click Here.
We have a lot more fun stuff planned through the holidays and into next year. Remember, we couldn't do what we do without your support!
Thank you again for all your continued support! If you haven't done so already, please follow us on Facebook & Twitter to stay up to date with the latest Move For Hunger news and events!
Talk to you soon!
Summertime and the livin is not easy.
Often times people think of a hunger as a problem plaguing us during the holiday season. Around Thanksgiving, you can find a hundred food drives in any given city. Yet in the summer, it's rare to find even one. Hunger is a problem that affects families ever single day of the year. More must be done to combat this problem on a year-round basis, rather than just highlighting it during the holidays.
What many people don't know is the valuable role our nation's food banks and schools play in providing emergency food assistance to children in need. There are tons of backpack programs and school lunch programs available for children throughout the school year. However, when summer comes, and kids are out of school, it is much more difficult to provide food for those without.
Move For Hunger challenges you to organize a food drive in your community this summer to help your neighbors in need! You can turn anything into a food drive! Here are some good examples:
Best of all - Move For Hunger can help you turn your food drive into a HUGE success. Give us a call, and we'll help you create fliers, send you collection boxes, and even send a truck to pick up all your food donations to bring to your local food bank. It's that easy!
To set up a food drive in your community, please email email@example.com or call 732-774-0521.
New York native, Marcy Ventresca, reached out to Move For Hunger a few months ago with a lofty goal:
"I'm going to bike 40 miles through NYC for the Five Boro Bike Tour to raise money for Move For Hunger."
When we first heard this, we thought she was crazy! Who rides 40 miles for charity?! Well - Marcy does! To thank her, we've loaded her up with some sweet Move For Hunger t-shirts and a flipcam to capture her journey. Stay tuned for more updates!
Please support Marcy's Ride For Hunger making a donation to help fight hunger in America.
Top O' the Mornin!
Move For Hunger is off to a great start for 2012. Ever since the NBC American Giving Awards, we've had tons of young people reach out to us wanting to hold food drives. We figured if there were young people out there willing to fight hunger in their communities, we should be helping them!
A few months ago, two little girls from Monroe, NC, reached out to us wanting to get involved. At that time, Move For Hunger didn't have a mover in that area. These 10 year olds took it upon themselves to call all the moving companies in their area to get some involved. They did just that! We then received a phone call - "Alright, we got you movers, can we hold a food drive at our school?" We did them one better. Our local moving partner donated a truck for a day, and we got permission from a local grocery store to stage the truck outside for the day. We sent t-shirts, fliers, banners, and sent out press releases. The end result:
These little girls collected 6,000 lbs of food in one day for their local food pantry. It was incredible!

Thank you for your generosity and support this year. It's been an amazing one! In under 3 years, we've collected nearly 400,000 lbs of food for food banks and pantries across the country. We have some BIG things planned for 2012. Please continue to visit our website and let people know our young organization exists. We couldn't do what we do without your support!
