Move For Hunger works with moving companies to support our communities' food banks. 1 in 6 Americans struggle to find their next meal, while 1 in 7 relocate each year. Move For Hunger has a huge opportunity to provide relief to those most desperate for our help. While some problems demand complex solutions, tackling our nation's hunger problem relies on one simple equation: Get excess food to those who need it. Please join us in fighting hunger nationwide.
Over 37 million Americans, including 14 million children, relied on emergency food assistance in 2010. Each year approximately 40 million Americans relocate. When people move they often get rid of their "stuff." A lot of this "stuff" is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. By using our unique knowledge and experience, Move For Hunger works with moving companies to create one of the nation's largest, year-round food drives.
We have created a national network of moving companies working to alleviate hunger in their local communities. Our movers offer to pick up unwanted non-perishable food items from their customers on moving day and deliver it to their local food bank.
We currently work with over 200 moving companies in 37 states and have collected nearly 400,000 lbs of food (over 300,000 meals). This project will enable us to expand to 1000 moving companies in all 50 states and collect over 1,000,000 lbs of food (384,615 meals) yearly.
Your support will enable us to mobilize an industry for change. So much food is wasted when people move, and we are excited for the opportunity to get movers involved in giving back!
