Project Personnel
Indira Pathak - Managing Trustee
Ms. Pathak chose to be an activist. While working with the women’s movement, she co-founded Vikalp, bringing to the group her passion of activism and her determination. She and Sakhi Sangathan conceptualized the project, assessed the odds, organized, and ensured committment of the women; the detailed plans reflect Ms. Pathak’s previously successful work with economic programs for the vulnerable.
Maya Sharma - Program Director
The women’s movement changed Ms. Sharma; From being a staid, urban housewife, she turned
into an enthusiastic activist. She worked first at a women’s group, then in a national trade union,
and now serves as an active trustee of Vikalp. Ms. Sharma is responsible for recording the
trainings and, when applicable, publishing books and educational documents on Vikalp-relevant
topics.
Sumitraben Bachubhai Baria - Sakhi Sangathan President
One of the first tribal women who was influenced by Vikalp, Ms. Baria has grown into an active
community organizer. She has embraced new ideas and carried them over into her personal life by
resisting the child marriages of her relatives. When the federation of community women (SS) was
implemented, she was elected President.
