Summary
Giving youth job training will keep them off the streets. Makphet restaurant gives youth hospitality traning so they can find jobs and earn income. Makphet is a socially responsible enterprise.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Lack of skills leading to gainful employment among urban marginalized youth in Laos represents a high risk for young people to end up on the streets or adopt harmful behaviors, pertpetuating the cycle of poverty. By providing professional hospitality training and subsequent job placement servcies, the chances for youth to improve their lives increases considerably without creating dependency on program support in the long term. They will then be able to find jobs and earn income.
How will this project solve this problem?
By providing quality vocational training in a real work environment, and by offering subsequent job placement services, vulnerable young people have the opportunity to obtain decent employment and attain long term financial security.
Potential Long Term Impact
30 students are provided with high quality training making them more attractive to prospective employers
15 students are placed into decent employment, ensuring their long term financial security.
Project Message
Young people come to Makphet the Restaurant and they flourish – they learn, they are inspired, they set future goals and become role models to other young people. This is why I love my work.
