Here at TVW a lot has been happening.
TVW was named Organization of the Year by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce. This is a wonderful opportunity to be recognized in the business community for being outstanding. There have been new partnerships made to benefit programs for disabled adults.
As a result of the award, TVW will be in the Hillsboro July 4th Parade. This parade is the second largest in Oregon, thus making this a wonderful way to get the TVW name out in the community.
TVW will be throwing 1720 bags of assorted candies, which were labeled and bagged by TVW's disabled clients. TVW will be throwing 500 frisbees and handing out our handmade cards made of recycled office paper.
The Autzen Foundation recently awarded TVW a $5000.00 grant for new staff computers. TVW was able to purchase 8 Dell computers!
The 6th annual Golf Tournament was a sell-out with giant success with proceeds increasing by $5000.00 to 27K. The event featured a silent auction and raffle. Prizes, donated by Nike were awarded for 1, 2, 3, last, KP, Longest Drive, Putting, and Pitching.
Coming up is the annual TVW client picnic on July 16th. This year's 1950's theme is Dan's Drive-In Diner and will feature a car show with 8 classic cars. BBQ hambugers, Hotdogs, and Root Beer floats with round out this much anticipated fun event.
Thank you to all who support TVW, have a fun and safe summer.
TVW has been working behind the scenes to launch a new website to showcase the new logo created by Troy University Graphic Design students. Minnesota volunteer Randy P. has volunteered his web design skills to build the bones for the new site, which is user friendly for yours truly, who must maintain and fill the site with information. TVW is very grateful for Randy P. who does all this work for TVW remotely.
Another exciting development is a HUGE furniture donation from Nike. There is too much to even list! Boardroom tables and comfy chairs! New lunchroom and production tables, and a brand new lobby for guests. TVW was able to sell some of our old furniture and donate the rest to Habitat for Humanity. Furniture sale proceeds will be used to purchase wood composite blinds for the client lunchroom/classroom.
Art Institute graduate Spencer Smith (www.spencercharlessmith.com) and Team donated their time to create a new mural to match the "mod" chairs donated by Nike that now grace the bus waiting area.
Also coming up is the 6th annual TVW Charity Golf Tournament to be held at the Reserve on June 27th. There are still a few sponsorships available. Call 503 848 4319 to secure your spot as a golfer or sponsor.
The 46th annual Open House and Auction was a rousing success. The 2nd year addition of the silent auction brought in $1200.00! With a partnership with a local sign company called Sign Shack, TVW was able to purchase a new 2 sided exterior sign, 2 building signs, and put signage on the box truck! The new signs reflect the new TVW logo.
Christmas was as special, as usual at TVW, with Santa coming for his visit and all TVW clients receiving TVW logo stocking hats. It was awesome to partner with Eastco Screen Print and Embroidery. Eastco also provides jobs for people with disabilties, and their prices are fantastic. TVW will definately be partnering with Eastco in the future.
Winter is grant writing time at TVW. There are currently two projects that are in need of funding. Vanguard Services, TVW's Alternative to Employment Center is in dire need of new floors to replace the hard cracked concrete ones and a fresh painting. Grants have been written to Boeing and Schnitzer for the project.
TVW clients have awesome computers, thanks to Boeing and Synopsys, however, the staff who serve them are running on 6-7 year old models with Windows XP. We even still own some Pentiums! Microsoft announced that in April they will no longer support Windows XP, so the need for new processors is imminent! Grants have been written to the Autzen Foundation and Collins Foundation for support of the project.
Next up for TVW is working on the 6th annual golf tournament set for June 27th. Mark your calendars!
