Summary

As part of the Community HIV/AIDS Mobilization Program (CHAMP), CHF International is providing assistance to 47,000 orphans and vulnerable children though the need outweighs what we can provide.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Among the poorest countries in the world, with over 51% of the population living below the poverty line, Rwanda is fighting to make headway against the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the social consequences of the epidemic, while grappling with other public health crises, chronic food insecurity, and the psychological impact of the 1994 genocide. HIV/AIDS has wiped out a large number of Rwanda's productive workforce, leaving behind orphans, widows and other vulnerable populations.

How will this project solve this problem?

Far from a mere hand-out, supporting Rwanda’s orphans and vulnerable children with proper nutrition, materials, school fees and training will provide the country’s future leaders with opportunities to succeed and thrive.

Potential Long Term Impact

Despite the challenges facing this small, central African nation, Rwanda benefits from an engaged government, a dense and active network of grassroots community-based, faith-based organizations. The CHAMP porgram is helping to strengten this network.

Project Message

In Kamonyi District, organized through its Compassionate Community an effort to build a home for a widow caring for five children whose family was affected by HIV. It changed her life.
