Build the capacity of the rural poor to utilize and generate income from alternative and renewable fuel technologies such as fuel briquettes and bio-gas systems.
Lushoto, Tanzania, is a rural, agricultural area with high rates of unemployment and disease. Waste from the town market is a primary source of disease, as well as polluted air from burning coal for energy. Working with the rural poor, particularly women, to utilize and generate income from alternative fuel technologies will help create needed jobs and provide households with clean energy for lighting and cooking, while promoting improved health outcomes and sustainable livelihoods.
With local government support we will provide the rural community with technical training and complementary business and market development services in utilizing alternative energy sources as well as generating income and interacting with the market.
The project will serve the entire Lushoto population in terms of disease control and energy services. The local government may adopt alternative fuels as a long-term solution to provide sustainable energy and job opportunities to its citizens.
