A Lifeline for a Severely Disadvantaged Community

A community centre is needed to continue to provide vital services to an impoverished community of 4000, where many families and children live hand to mouth by combing the garbage heap and begging

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

In a community with high rates of unemployment, crime, domestic violence, school drop outs, coupled with poor sanitation and the ongoing presence of local drug traffickers, this project provides vital social, community and educational services. Reaching 4000 people in this poor region of NE Brazil, this project has won much recognition for the crucial assistance it provides and has recently been donated a piece of land by the city so that they can build a centre to continue their good work

How will this project solve this problem?

They provide a significant list of services in the areas of education, income & job creation, domestic violence, recreation, social services, health, environmental and community policies… and many more. See additional resources below for full details

Potential Long Term Impact

As well as becoming the community’s focal point for the services above, the centre importantly will focus on long term educational and social improvements as well as promoting means of self-sufficiency for local families to bring long term relief
