Summary
A Scholarship Fund will enable Girl Rural Entrepreneurs, graduates of the "Mbaracayu Educational Center", -a financially self-sustaining agro-forestry high school in Paraguay's Mbaracayu Forest Reserve-, to get a university education and overcome poverty.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Currently, 48 girls from poor, rural backgrounds have almost completed 3 rigorous years of environmental science education and entrepreneurial skill building at the Mbaracayu Educational Center, and are looking ahead to figure out their opportunities for the future, including going to University. However, this is a tough goal for many of them to accomplish, as they do not have the financial means to pay for University or due to family pressure to support their household and help generate income.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project aims to make the girls' dreams a reality by helping them with their tuition fees. This scholarship fund aims to help a girl (or girls, depending on the amount raised) attend University in Paraguay or abroad. For many of the future graduates, the next step is attending University. However, this can be difficult mainly due to the lack of monetary resources.
The project will support these girls by granting scholarships based on need, merit, and admittance to University.
Potential Long Term Impact
Six months after graduation from university, at least 1 girl/year will have a good job in agro-forestry or have started her own rural enterprise.
Project Message
The girls from the Mbaracayu Educational Center are not mere passive observers, but pro-active leaders of their communities' change, progress and development
