No Orphan without Education

The Project was aimed at facilitating participation of orphan children in educational programmes and protecting them from potential threats of child labour and exploitation. This was done through quality education for 300 orphan students in 35 schools of the earthquake and flood-hit areas of AJK, Pakistan. Each child was provided with knapsack, textbooks, workbooks, stationery, and school uniform and tuition fee for the year 2012-13. These 300 orphaned children, coming from over 60 villages across Muzaffarabad Division, benefited directly from the Project. The indirect beneficiaries include widowed mothers and guardians of these orphan children, teachers and staff of the participating schools, and community at large.

The design and formulation of the Project followed relevant provisions and policy priorities of the Government of Pakistan and was planned in conformity with the Articles 25(a), 37(b) and 38(d) of the Constitution of Pakistan. The Project design followed relevant provisions of the Dakar Framework of Action, the first goal of which is to expand and improve comprehensive basic education for all children, especially for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged, besides following relevant provisions of the Convention on the Rights of the Child with particular emphasis on the Articles 2, 28, 29, 32 and 34 of the Convention. The Project design was also aligned to the Government of Pakistan's National Education Policy and National Plan of Action to Combat Child Labour. It supported MDGs 2 and 3.

The expected outcome of the Project was to contribute towards breaking the cycle of poverty by ensuring that selected orphans, of school-going age, attend school and that the lack of financial resources, discrimination or any other problems do not deter them from fully participating in the educational programmes. The support and supplies provided have enabled young underprivileged children who have lost their parental love and care get education in a safe and supportive environment irrespective of caste, gender or financial means. The students who participated in the Project agreed that the implementation of the project is helping them significantly change in their lives. Children who were not able to go to school or continue their schooling previously due to lack of school fees are now able to. The fact that students are provided with knapsack, textbooks and stationery as well as uniform and shoes has made schooling affordable to their families and encourages them to meet and study with children from a wide range of backgrounds.

There are still a large number of orphans who need support to get a better quality education and transform their lives into prosperity for themselves and their families. Your continuous support will help us to help these children open a door to better life. While we are thankful for the generous support from hundreds of donors who used Global Giving's platform to contribute into our cause of supporting orphan children through education; we request them to invite their friends and families and become part of this project.
