CHEDRA and Bugabira School supporters, you are so dear to us!
We at CHEDRA would like to thank you for having such kind hearts and for donating to the community though GlobalGiving. Your support is now reaching over 250 children. Amazing!
Impact of Funds from you through GlobalGiving
The impact that your support has is both short and long term. On top of supporting the school to help more pupils, this kind act of donating is building a spirit of determination and love for one another in community. This is what happens here: Whenever we get a donation from you, we tell the children, parents and the community that we received support from kind people that we do not even know by face. What surprises people is the way that people from far away and majority of whom have not been to this community before but commit them to help others. In fact, on top of making a recurring donation, even donating the first time is great! We want to thank you for using you hard earned money to support others in Uganda.
The resultant fact is that some community members have also turned to use their time and energy to help. It is because they have seen you donating even when you are not here. On several occasions, I have seen people bring firewood to school, I have seem those that have brought food and the most precious type of food Uganda-Matooke! This is because at school mainly children eat a type of food called posho made from maize corn but, because they eat this type most of the time , there are kind parents who have said ‘After all a few bunches of Matooke can serve the whole school a meal, I will go to my plantation and give the school kids a great taste today!’A good example in Mr. Mugabi Mansuuli who is the immediate neighbor at the entrance of the school. He has also given sugar canes, mangoes and avocado to the school children many times. There are also others who are as kind as Manisuuli. The donors of GlobalGiving are the Manisuulis’ staying out of Uganda.
Our commitment has been and will be that; Bugabira School shall never turn away pupils from class and will use the available resources to provide short-term relief to needy children and prepare them for a long term better future.
We love and cherish all of you our great donors. You are transforming our community slowly but surely. At one time, you will realize the fruits of your great love when these children grow up. Thank you again for your donations through Global Giving.
If you have any ideas, suggestions or questions about how best to help people in Masaka, or about the use of the funds, please contact the Program Coordinator Kigozi Moses at: firstname.lastname@example.org Tel: +256 776 512 227.
Thank you a thousand times!

At the beginning of the year CHEDRA conducted a community meeting in which we introduced plan for the new Year 2014. One of our major concerns was that we did not have enough dormitories for the children. At the end of the meeting, several people in the community especially youth committed themselves to come to school and make bricks which can be used in construction. Of course we had to pay them but at a subsidized price. One of the hey people involved is Mr. Kayondo, he says he has been helped by many people and therefore is more than wiling to support others. The funds we received have been used to pay for some of the items needed to make bricks like water, grass and firewood. We have plans to finish up the building soon.
The children are happy, today they are sleeping so squeezed but there is hope that in the near future, the school through your support will be in position to have enough facilities for them. This has been possible because of your support.
Our commitment has been and will be that; Bugabira School shall never turn away pupils from class and will use the availed funds to provide short-term relief to needy children and prepare them for a better future.
Thank you again for your donations through Global Giving. We are looking forward to helping more and more children with their guardians. How best do you think we can attract more funding? Do you know any agency that funds children or education so that we can apply?
Thank you many times!

The CHEDRA team
Help 50 vulnerable Ugandan children in school
The Bugabira School community, Teachers and Children would like to thank you through Chedra, for your continued support, love and care that is through global giving towards supporting the vulnerable children in Bugabira Primary School catchment areas. You are so wonderful!
Through your support, we have been able to support 30 vulnerable children with scholastic materials and other basic necessities towards providing quality and accessible education. In this way, you have contributed to reducing ignorance, illiteracy and poverty driven lifestyles of the Children and their immediate families. Your support is immeasurable!
The school administration together with the parent’s representatives had a meeting and came up with the best method to utilize this support. Accordingly, they chose the most vulnerable and these have been provided with books and that are needed during the course of the term therefore, the poor parents and the guardians of these children have been relived from buying books, uniforms and other scholastic materials for the children since through your donations, these have been accessed. Thank you!
Through your donations the children in the Bugabira School have also been availed with free school uniforms. This has relieved parents, some of whom are victims of HIV/AIDS who can not afford to buy school uniforms. They are happy to see their children smart in school attire. In addition, this makes all children to fill equal in status and it reduces stigmatization and discrimination that the poor ones may face by ‘looking different’ from the rest of the school.
The Bugabira School children have also been provided with pens and pencils through your donations during this period. This has enabled children to improve in their writing skills and also solved the problem of children having missing notes with reasons such as ‘I did not have a pen or pencil to use during the lesson.’ This has improved on the performance of children in this school. Since they are able to copy their own notes which become easier to revise and understand. All the above scholastic materials that are being provided to these vulnerable children as a result of your donations.
Due to your support, Bugabira Primary school has made commitment to provide nutritious breakfast to the pupils (porridge) mixed with sugar. This has improved the well being of all the children. They look nice, healthy and happy .This has made these children to feel at home while in school, since some even don’t get the chance of taking sugar while at home and this is because the parents can not afford to buy the sugar. For this reason, the children are happy and feel they have a family (School) that takes care of them. All the above is providing relief to the needy children because of your generous love.
Thank you once again for your donations, love and support through GlobalGiving!
Hugs for everyone! When Britt Lake GlobalGiving's Director of Programs, and I visited CHEDRA's office in Masaka we received the best welcome, hugs all around.
Britt and I first spoke with staff members before visiting the school. The staff is such an inspiration! We learned more about issues facing the community where CHEDRA works, a section of Masaka which faces high levels of poverty. CHEDRA is a community-based organization working to recognize problems faced by persons in the community and then seeks solutions to eradicate them.
CHEDRA's programs are well-rounded. The staff facilitates community-based education programs focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention, maternity health, all the way to literacy training. CHEDRA’s counselors work within the schools to support children in need of a listening ear. Tom, one of CHEDRA’s staff members sums up their work in a nutshell, CHEDRA works to, “restore hope.”
After our meeting in the office we went to visit Bugabira Community Primary School. What a second welcome! The school's choir welcomed us through song and dance, such talent!
It was the beginning of a new term for the students and you could feel the excitement in the air. It was clear that the teachers engage the students through active conversation.
After meeting staff members and students it was difficult leaving the school. Thank you for supporting education in Uganda!
