Agros Guatemala has more than eighty-five artisans producing high quality textiles and specialty products using foot-looms in the Ixil region; women from eighteen different communities, of all ages and backgrounds, have come together to form Concepto Ixil. This consortium helps the women provide income for their families as well as keep the tradition of their ancestors alive.
Recently, Concepto Ixil was invited to showcase their products at a specialty wholesale/retail conference in Los Angeles, California, August 23-26, 2012. This opportunity will allow the women to highlight the success of Concepto Ixil, as well as introduce their products to an entirely new market. While Agros Guatemala was able to provide the group with $3580 toward the trip, 35% of the trip is yet to be funded. Agros International has fronted the funds, but $2,000 still needs to be raised.
Funding of this project by Global Giving members will support awareness of Concepto Ixil's products in the International Market. It will also ensure that all proceeds of any sales will be taken home by the women to benefit their families, rather than cover the cost of their trip.
This project will further confirm the viability of woven products, and the women's cooperative effort under the banner of Concepto Ixil. Moreover, we hope that this trip will lead to increased income for these women and their families by enhancing the visibility of Concepto Ixil.
