Help feed a child in Kibera this Christmas.

We are an institution providing early Inclusive Early childhood Education to children between 3-8 years. The centre offers services to five groups of children, Orphans, Infected & affected by HIV, poor and special need children (physically disabled, deaf, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and mentally handicapped). Educating the children is just part of our challenge, we also take care of the nutritional needs through a feeding program. Its is impossible to educate a hungry child.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Hunger is the biggest challenge facing humanity in this day and age. Kibera is the biggest slum in sub saharan africa with a population of over two million majority of them living under a dollar a day. Most of this families have 3-4 children on average living in one household. With the Poverty levels so high feeding a family is a big challenge and parents are forced to depend on hand outs and to send their children to school in the hope they can be fed.

How will this project solve this problem?

Our nutrition program helps the children get a balanced diet meal and also helps them to focus on school work. We provide the kids with a mid morning snack usually porridge then later a balanced diet lunch. Our feeding program has greatly improved productivity in class and has also encouraged parents to bring their kids to school.

Potential Long Term Impact

The project will feed over 300 children and ensure they get a nutritious diet. The project will also reduce child related labour incidences as many children are turning to jobs even prostitution to get money for food.
