Summary
Help MADRE reach women and families by working with KOFAVIV, our Haitian sister organization, to provide lasting emergency relief to the survivors of this unbelievably devastating hurricane season.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
After being slammed by four back-to-back storms, women and families are desperate for fresh water to drink and something to eat. Many have had nothing for days, as villages are submerged and hundreds have died. The situation is only worsened by a lack of government infrastructure. And the dangers do not disappear when the storms leave: hundreds of thousands of people are still left homeless and without access to basic necessities.
How will this project solve this problem?
Working together, we will deliver rice, plastic sheeting, water jugs, water tablets to prevent cholera outbreaks, broad-spectrum antibiotics, and other items desperately needed for survival.
Potential Long Term Impact
Post-disaster relief rarely addresses the unique needs faced by women and children. These organizations will be in Haiti long after the disaster disappears from headlines, ensuring lasting relief that makes a real difference in the lives of many.
Project Message
We were not ready for this. My children have no rice to eat, no water to drink, no bed to sleep in. The storms have left us with less than nothing.
