Dr. Henry Nyamubi - Executive Director of KASI
In February 1983, Henry sustained a spinal cord injury and subsequent quadriplegia in a road accident while working with the Ministry of Health, and in 1993 he established KASI to address the issues of spinally injured people. Henry found that there was little support available, but if the right treatment was provided he believed that many people could survive to lead healthy, productive lives.
Abdullah Munish - Wheelchair Technician
In 2000 Abdullah was involved in a motor accident and sustained a spinal injury at lumber one. After completing his rehabilitation at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, he was accepted into a wheelchair technologist training course. He established a wheelchair workshop at the hopsital, and since then he has been producing appropriate wheelchairs for the disabled in the Kilimanjaro region.
Tish Scolnik - MIT Mobility Lab Project Coordinator
Tish is a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on international development. She collaborated with Abdullah to develop a folding three-wheeled wheelchair, and is currently designing a small-business wheelchair.
