Certificate ceremony

Receiving the Brain Education certificate
Receiving the Brain Education certificate

Last Thursday, February 20th, over 180 school principals were certified to teach Brain Education in their schools. Most of them have been practicing throughout the course of the program and have embeded a fully-fledged Brain Education curriculum in their schools for 2014. More than 80 doctors, psicologists, social workers, and technical professionals in charge of managing the health and profesional outcomes of school principals and teachers, were also certified.

IBREA is in the process of preparing, together with the Salvadorian Ministry of Education and the ISBM (Instituto Salvadoreño de Bienestar Magisterial - the institution taking care of educators' holistic health) the next phase of Brain Education in the country, reaching another group of 200+ people accross all the 14 Departments.

Both institutions have made commitments to institutionalize Brain Education and make it part of their yearly programming moving forward.

We are grateful for your contribution always. We invite you to keep being a part of this dream to bring the benefits of Brain Education to educators, health professionals and government officials and the young future generations they take care of in El Salvador.

Please make your donation today and encourage others to do so too!

Brain Education goes nationwide

2

177 school principals, 100 health professionals, 14 regional education directors will receive the Brain Education and Earth Citizen Awareness curriculum. IBREA will work in 4 zones of the country: Santa Ana in the West, San Miguel in the Eastern part, La Paz in the Central part and San Salvador. Each of the 177 principals oversees another 10 schools in average. The program foresees their replication of the curriculum to the principals in those schools too.

The opening event of this third phase took place on July 2nd in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Over 100 people came, including principals and teachers from the previous phases of the program and new participants. Everybody showed big enthusiasm for the staring of the program! IBREA's Vice President, The Vice-Minister of Education and the Director of the ISBM (Instituto Salvadoreño de Bienestar Magisterial - Salvadorian Institute for Educators' Wellbeing) who partially funded this program, gave hopeful speeches and showed a great commitment to the success of the program.

Our objectives include: better health, stress management, self-esteem and motivation, reducing violence in schools, improving academic motivation among students and enhanced conviviality.  The ISBM will carry out a research measuring the impact of the program through pre and post physical evaluations and psicosocial tests.

With this third phase, we want to creat a model in El Salvador which can be replicated in other Central American and Latin American countries.

Let's keep working together for the dream of a healthy and peaceful society in El Salvador. Please make your donations and share with your networks!

Reinforcement and final research in 4 schools in San Salvador. Ready for the next phase!

Workshop in the University of El Salvador
Workshop in the University of El Salvador

Earth Citizens are gathering in El Salvador! The goal of Brain Education is to raise awareness about our great humanity as one big family on this earth and actualize that value in our life.

This last trip to El Salvador has been such a joy (we've been in the country from Feb 12 to March 12). We could witness the fruit of all the education we have been providing to them, and we want to share it with you!

We evaluated the principals' and teachers' own application of Brain Education in the schools. Most of the teachers are giving 10-15 minutes of Brain Education before their classes, others are gathering different classes in the morning in the patio and doing a joint Brain Education class to start the day. Others are teaching in their communities. One teacher is giving Brain Education to her whole church community where she is a leader, she holds classes of 60-70 people weekly. They all reported changes in their students related to better focus, less absenteesm, more motivation, better attention in class. Through intensive 3 hour sessions with each of the schools, this month we reinforced their capacity to teach Brain Education to their students.

In total, over 90 teachers and the principals in 4 schools of San Salvador have now received the education and many of them share how actually the whole culture in the schools has changed, from separtation to collaboration, from negativity to positive attitudes, from a passive mentality to a proactive one.

Last week, we held a closing ceremony for the project in these 4 schools. It was co-hosted with the Ministry of Education. Everyone received their Brain Education certificate and declared confidently "I am an Earth Citizen!".

We also did another workshop in the University of El Salvador, where we are planning to develop a module for the curriculum of the BA in teaching during the next phase of our program.

All this would not have been possible without your support. Thank you so much. Please keep spreading the word. As you know the program will go nation-wide to 180 schools soon and it will need a lot of support!!!!

Here's the next opportunity! IMPORTANT NOTICE! Today, March 13th, Globalgiving will match all funds at 30%!!!! Please make your contribution (anything helps!) and get an additional 30% on top of it from GG. If we receive a lot of donations this day, Globalgiving will also give us an additional $1000 to the project.

PS ;-) During this trip to El Salvador, we got freshly roasted coffee from an organic farm for IBREA members who joined during our last campaign. If you are one of them, you'll soon be enjoying delicious Salvadorian coffee!

Many good news from our second phase in El Salvador

Workshop in University of El Salvador
Workshop in University of El Salvador

We finished our second phase of Brain Education in El Salvador with great results!

At this point, 90 educators are trained and certified in Brain Education in 4 schools and over 150 children from 3rd to 9th grade have received Brain Education. Teachers feel they can manage the students and the school environment in a much more balanced and creative way. The children who received the education now know how to better deal with their stressful environment, many of them are getting better grades and are more focused on their life goals. The National Education Director from the Ministry of Education came to an event we organized in one of the schools, a school with over 50% absenteeism and a long history of violence and sexual abuse inside the school, and expressed "the whole school has changed its atmosphere, I see happy faces, I see motivated people, it's really amazing". In Distrito Italia, the Swimming Pool for Peace is activated, with daily BE and swimming classes provided by IBREA-trained staff.

In November, we gave a workshop to a group of students and faculty members in the University of El Salvador (UES). They were very satisfied and have decided to continue collaborating with IBREA and the Global Cyber University through joint research on the impact of Brain Education on stress management and violence.

The biggest news resulting from this second phase of Brain Education in El Salvador is that, motivated by the outcomes in the 4 schools, the Government has decided to expand the program nationwide. We are creating the plan to start in a network of 180 leading schools accross the country.

This is a big turning point!! We encourage you to grab the opportunity to be a part of this beautiful process of expansion. Tell your friends, family members, people in your community...use your energy to support this cause!!! You can be a part of it by: donating, finding possible donors, or offering your volunteer work for IBREA or refer other people that can volunteer. If you want to volunteer, please sign up for our 1-week World Youth Leadership program which takes place in New York and is a prerequisite for you to work with us in the field. The next one is January 6-12 2013, and the following one will take place sometime in July. Call us at 2123190848 with your ideas and your choices!

Also, for those of you who are not IBREA members, please become members before the end of 2012. You will receive Salvadorian coffee grown by local farmers ;-)) You can see (and share) the promotional video in the link below.

BE going wider and deeper in El Salvador

We are back in El Salvador!

The Korean Ministry of Education has provided the funds for IBREA to continue its work in Distrito Italia and start in 3 more schools of San Salvador. Our partner for this second phase is the Korean Global Cyber University, who is carrying out a research on the impact of our education and monitoring the teaches' Brain Education (BE) teaching to their students in their own classroom. They also provided a teachers BE manual and students BE notebooks.

This second phase started at the beginning of September and is having great results already. Many teachers report having better health and some of them stopped taking medicine for issues such as back pain or insomnia. "I can manage my stress better at home and in school. Before, I used to come home and get all tangled up in my children's problems. Now I know how to take a deep breath and deal with the issues in a constrictive way" says one of the teachers in Apopa - one of the new schools.

Two of the teachers in Distrito Italia are being a part of the IBREA team, coming with us Monday through Thursday to teach in Apopa. One of them started providing Brain Education to the teachers in Apopa, the other one to elementary level students. They are doing a great job, and they are so satisfied to see the students and teachers' faces brighten up more and more every day.

Among the new groups of teachers in the 3 new schools, the Global Cyber University has chosen 3 people in each school to carry out case studies about their replication of BE in their classroom (10-15 min before starting each class). They are given instruction every week to keep advancing with the curriculum. So far, they are reporting that the children participate in the BE exercises well, they enjoy and laugh and at the same time they can focus much better in the class after.

In Distrito Italia, last year students are going through a deeper level of BE training, focusing on using their life energy to plan and accomplish their goals and dreams. Also in Distrito Italia, everyone is very excited to jump into the Swimming Pool for Peace soon. The construction develops and we are inaugurating it on October 17th with participation from high level government officials, country representatives, community leaders and the media. All the members of the community are participating in the preparation. The Swimming Pool is beautifully growing as a space for sharing, enjoying and creating harmony.

Please keep being an active part of this process in El Salvador to help them remember their human nature and unleash their power to create their lives!
