We are thrilled with the progress on the infrastructure for the Kenya Connect Learning Resource Center! A fence around the property has been completely installed, funded by the National Honor Society at Wootton High School in Rockville, MD. A donation from the Sunrise Rotary Club of Ellicott City, MD funded piped water as well as a water tank. And thanks to you, construction of a pit latrine is almost complete and we'll soon be breaking ground on the main building of the resource center.
Meanwhile back in Maryland, students at Arundel HS are raising money for the computer lab. The students want to begin an international book discussion group which will allow them to Skype with their Kenyan counterparts. We also have a student from Hammond HS who is raising money for a demonstration garden, to be installed on the center's grounds. The garden will show efficient farming methods for this drought-stricken region of East Africa. We also have a student from Long Reach HS who is helping to set-up a school mentorship program for 10 Kenyan students via The School Fund. We are thrilled to have high school students leading the way!
We still need funds to help complete the building. Please consider "buying a brick" for $50 this holiday season. Each "brick" brings us closer to completing the building.
Our Pen Pal and School Sponsorship Programs continue to thrive. The community of Wamunyu continues to be deeply grateful to the work of Kenya Connect and are anxiously awaiting the new Learning Resource Center! Many thanks to all of you for helping to make this a reality.
Asante Sana!
