Due to entrenched poverty, people in the drought-stricken community of Wamunyu have limited opportunity to develop the basic skills necessary to improve their lives. Over 14,000 children and adults will benefit from having a green Community Learning and Resource Center. This solar-powered facility will provide first-time access to computers and a library as well as space for community education. A model grey and black water system will be installed to teach water conversation techniques.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

As a result of extreme poverty, community members of Wamunyu have little access to education and resources to improve their lives. Schools lack necessary resources, such as books for students and instructional materials for teachers. Many adults have not had a chance to attend school at all. Access to computers is not possible due to the lack of electricity. Over 14,000 children and adults will benefit from having a green Community Learning and Resource Center.

How will this project solve this problem?

This solar-powered Community Learning and Resource Center will be equipped with computers and offer free computer training to children as well as provide space for adult education. A library at the center will serve the entire community. A grey and black water conservation system will be installed to help train people in sustainable water usage in this drought-stricken area.

Potential Long Term Impact

This green Community Learning and Resource Center will provide access to books, computers and training for community members to thrive in a changing world. It will also serve as a model of sustainable technology. The community of Wamunyu will be transformed through having resources for learning and a place for classes and training. As members learn new technology and information, they will be able to use them to improve conditions in the community.
