The Best Quarter Yet

Time for Performing Arts

Dear GlobalGiving friends and partners,

Thank you for standing with us at Acres of Mercy Kenya. This term, your support helped us learn in class, read more, practise Mathematics, take part in clubs, play sports, sing, act, explore science, make art, and grow in confidence. We are learning that school is not only about marks. It is also about character, teamwork, creativity, courage, and service.

What We Learned This Term

In our classrooms, we practised reading, writing, counting, problem-solving, speaking, and answering questions with confidence.
Some of us received extra help through reading and comprehension activities. This helped us understand stories, answer questions, and improve fluency.
We used growth mindset messages to remind ourselves that we can improve when we practise and do not give up.
We learned school values and expectations, and we are working to become responsible learners who respect others.
We joined clubs such as Science Club, Art Club, Scouts, Chess Club, Performing Arts, Music, and field activities.
In Science Club, younger learners explored floating and sinking, mixing colours, bubbles, magnifying lenses, and simple observations from the environment.
In Art Club, learners coloured, painted, made paper crafts, collages, flowers, bags, boats, and other creative work.
In Scouts, learners practised drills, learned about service, explored indigenous trees, and prepared to grow through different scouting stages.
In Performing Arts, learners practised poems, acting, singing, and music. We are happy that the school purchased Isukuti drums for the club.

In athletics, learners participated in races, relays, jumps, and throws. Our relay team did very well and advanced to the zonal level.

As a testament to the impact we are having in and out of the classrooms, the students had this to say:

“I like Science Club because I can touch, see, try, and ask questions. I learned that some things float and some things sink.” Early Years Learner

“Morning Mathematics practice and reading time helped me become more confident. I want more storybooks and workbooks so I can practise.” A Middle Grade Learner

“Clubs and sports help us learn teamwork. When we compete or perform, we learn courage and discipline.” A Junior School Learner

And It's a Wrap: Cheers to a Fruitful 2025

Children at Play

Dear friends and partners,

We have come to the end of another year! So much growth, so much progress! I begin my report in from the events at the end of June, since this was our last reporting month.

At the beginning of the financial year in July, our school enrollment stood at 56 boys and 59 girls, a total of 115 children. We aimed to grow our enrollment throughout the 2025 school year. We had transitions both in and out of the school, with 2 transfers and 1 new admission. Our current total student enrollment is 127, Boys 66 (52%), Girls 61 (48%). These are supported by 14 teachers, 2 kitchen staff, 4 administrative support staff, and 2 volunteers.

School Activities & Programs

Current school programs revolve around five main improvement areas, namely:-

Curriculum Delivery

- Competency-Based Education; we purchased books that align with the rationalized curriculum, and put up infrastructure to support outdoor netball and volleyball games.

- Co-curricular: Learners went for the Zonal and Sub-County Music Festivals, where they placed third out of 35 schools.

- Reading & Literacy Program: The library has seen activity with students borrowing over 1000 fiction and non-fiction books for the period between July and December 2025

Safe & Conducive Learning Environment

- The wall project began in March was completed in the front part. We are yet to complete the full school perimeter, which would boost security that can enhance children’s agricultural projects.

Student Engagement

- Clubs & sports; 100% of learners are engaged in sporting and club activities that include netball, volleyball, soccer, chess, performing arts, and environmental clubs

Parental & Community Engagement

- PTA meeting. Parents and teachers met to work out ways to motivate both learners and staff. A Cultural and exhibition day was organized by the school with over 65% attendance by parents. This is part of engaging parents in assessments

Staff & Student Welfare

- Student Counselling & Mentoring sessions; All middle school and Senior school learners are meeting with mentors at least once every fortnight to help them succeed in school

- Staff birthday celebration; Staff celebrated birthdays of members born between July and December 2025. These were informal and funs event that also builds teamwork

In November, Grade 6 and Grade 9 learners completed their Summative assessments KPSEA and KJSEA respectively with results out in January and December, respectively. All six (6) of the Grade 9 students all met and exceeded expectations with all qualifying for the Jomo Kenyatta Foundations Elimu Scholarship. Five students qualified for the STEM pathway and 1 qualified for the Social Sciences pathway in Grade 10.

What crowning moments to the 2025 end of year and as we eagerly welcome 2026.

Teaching Children Well

Pre School Children

Dear friends and partners,

The middle of the second term 2025 is here. Half the year is gone and learners have been successfully taken through one and a half- terms of learning. Here are some updates on where we are.

Enrollment

At the beginning of the financial year in February, our school enrollment stood at 116 children. We aimed to grow our enrollment throughout the 2025 school year. We had transitions both in and out of the school, with 2 transfers and 1 new admission. Our current total student enrollment is 115, Boys 65 (57%), Girls 50 (43%). These are supported by 14 teachers, 2 kitchen staff, 4 administrative support staff, and 2 volunteers.

School Activities & Programs

Current school programs revolve around five main improvement areas, namely:-

Curriculum Delivery

- Competency-Based Education; we purchased books that align with the rationalized curriculum, and put up infrastructure to support outdoor netball and volleyball games.

- Co-curricular: Learners went for the Zonal and Sub-County Music Festivals, where they placed third out of 35 schools.

- Reading & Literacy Program: The library has seen activity with students borrowing over 900 fiction and non-fiction books for the period between February & June 23^rd 2025

Safe & Conducive Learning Environment

- Front Wall Construction: We put up a wall to screen the school and offer safety for our learners at a cost of about $ 5,668. This has significantly changed the learning atmosphere within the school.

Student Engagement

- Clubs & sports; 100% of learners are engaged in sporting and club activities that include netball, volleyball, soccer, chess, performing arts, and environmental clubs

Parental & Community Engagement

- PTA meeting. Parents and teachers met to work out ways to motivate both learners and staff. A session was also organized to help Junior School learners choose their career pathways

- Parental attendance during parents meetings were as follows:- For Junior School 63%, Upper primary 83%, Lower primary 54%, and Pre-school 42%.

Staff & Student Welfare

- Student Counselling & Mentoring sessions; All middle school and Senior school learners are meeting with mentors at least once every fortnight to help them succeed in school

Staff birthday celebration; Staff celebrated birthdays of members born between January and May 2025. It was an informal and fun event that also builds teamwork.

We trust that with your continued partnership we will be able to finish the second term well and provide quality learning to the children, igniting them and helping them secure a firm foundation for their future.
