Integrated Rural Community Center for Agriculture wants to improve the living conditions of 200 families in Cameroon by helping 200 rural women increase agricultural productivity through the practice of sustainable agricultural practices. This will help improve on their farm yields and income and assist them attain food sufficiency a much desired goal for Food security.
Women shoulder the bulk of family responsibility here and since their sole occupation is farming, they spend all their time and energy on the farm. Unfortunately they are unable to produce enough for their households since they lack inputs and equipment to invest in sustainable agricultural practices. As a result they trek to farms so many kilometers away in search of more fertile land in order to produce enough to meet their daily mounting social burdens.
Provision of capital and capacity building as means of getting access to equipment, inputs and knowledge, eventually improving productivity, income levels and living conditions of the families. It will also ensure that they adopt sustainable agricultural practices eventually saving them the time and energy of traveling to distant places in search of more fertile agricultural land. They will be engaged in workshops, study visits, technical training, outreach to stakeholders and policy makers.
Women have the capacity to lead and build and of recent, those of them who have been given the opportunity to invest in sustainable agricultural practices have been able to rescue whole families from hunger and poverty. Empowering them thus will have the long term impact of improving food security and reducing poverty by about 75% in rural communities and bringing some half a billion people out of hunger and starvation.
