Every year, we support Bonnaroo's environmental goals by retrofitting low-income families' homes in Manchester, TN. This year we want to help 10 more families than we usually do. Families renting on fixed incomes are subjected to high, unaffordable utility bills making it difficult to improve the families' living situation. This project offers families an opportunity to reduce their utility bills by providing energy efficient solutions and energy saving tips.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The problem is both local and global. Global climate change poses a risk to our environment and all of us who depend on it. We're seeking to expand our local carbon offset program in Manchester, TN to benefit more families than we did last year.
How will this project solve this problem?
This project will reduce carbon emissions while serving the Tennessee community to improve their social, economic and environmental well-being. By swapping out inefficient shower heads, sink aerators and light bulbs each family will save 15% on monthly utility bills, helping them save money, reducing their environmental impact and improving their quality of life.
Potential Long Term Impact
The long-term impact of this project reduces the environmental strain on Tennessee's natural resources, while improving the living situations of low-income families. Natural resources saved such as water and energy will help create a stronger, more resilient community over time. This creates less reliance on imported, dirty, coal for electricity production and saves the limited freshwater resources of the island.
