A community of 40,000 refugees from Sudan's civil wars receives primary medical care, free vaccination, child nutrition, and maternity care from the area's only local Health Center.
For the 40,000 residents of Dar-es-Salaam displaced by Sudan's civil war, access to public utilities and health facilities is almost entirely lacking. The few local services that exist are poorly maintained and unaffordable to many residents. Child malnutrition, malaria, yellow fever and other sexually-transmitted diseases are widespread and health awareness is very minimal.
Global Giving's support will ensure the continued operation and maintenance of the health center, which provides primary care services--including 24-hr obstetric care--and conducts outreach to educate the community about nutrition and basic health.
Availability of health care ensured for community; eventually hope to achieve self-sustainability through onsite sale of potable water.
