This project provides orphans and abandoned children in the community with a micro-health insurance card which gives them the opportunity to have access to quality health care through a community based micro-health insurance scheme.
The existence and the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS and malaria have made so many Cameroonian children to become orphans. According to UNICEF 2009 report, a child dies of malaria every 5 seconds, 33,0000 children are being orphaned every year by AIDS. Some of these orphans live with their grand parents and in orphanages. These grandparents are not financially viable to afford health care for these orphans, with these indicators is clear that children are the most vulnerable population in Cameroon.
500 orphans will be registered into the community micro-health insurance scheme and a health insurance card will be issued to them. With this health insurance card the children will have access to health facilities where they can go for medical attention as need arises. In addition to this, those living with chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS will be constantly monitored to make sure that they take their medications in time by health personnel and a community volunteer.
Restoring hope and life for 500 orphans by assisting in providing access to quality health care is an unquestionable gesture considering the difficulties faced by these orphans in having access to quality health care due to financial inaccessibility.
