Increase Vaccination Rates in Remote Villages

This project builds a stable supply chain in Mozambique with a focus on last-mile support for remote communities to supply vaccines and medicines to address HIV/AIDS and malaria, among other diseases.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Mothers often walk for days to take their children to a health clinic only to find out that the clinics are out of vaccines, and have little information as to when they will be restocked. As a result, millions of children die each year from diseases that vaccines and medeicines could have prevented. The program provides a distribution system to ensure those who live in the most remote areas of Mozambique will not be forgotten.

How will this project solve this problem?

This program supports distribution of medical supplies to remote villages in Mozambique. We also provide training of healthcare workers on vaccine and medical supply management.

Potential Long Term Impact

Based on a highly successful pilot project that raised vaccine coverage rates from 68% to 94%, and reduction of stock outs from 80% to 1%, VillageReach is launching a national expansion of its last-mile health system strengthening system.
