The project targets orphans and vulnerable children affected and or affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. These children have taken up the responsibility of heading households at a very tender age.Such responsibility has impacted negatively on their psychosocial well being. As an organization that has been working with disadvantaged groups for the past twelve years we have seen it fit to engage vulnerable children in sports activities so as to improve their psychosocial well being through sport.
In the 8 communities where we operate from there is an increase in the number of children who have taken up the responsibility of heading households as a result of them being orphaned by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. We have realized that assuming such roles at a tender age impacts negatively on the psychological well being of children hence we have come up with a program that will ensure that these children meet with other children on weekends and play sport.
The project will ensure that these children open up and share their challenges with others as well as acquire team building skills and interpersonal skills in the process. The project will also enable children to learn how to freely express themselves as well as identify their talents.
The project will ensure that these children grow up knowing how to relate with other people in society as well as be able to stand up and make informed decisions on issues relating to the community. The project will ensure that the next generation of community members and leaders fully participate in the development of their communities.Communities will benefit from this exercise.
