Spreading Health Awareness in Full Force all Fall

Presentation at USC on Self Care
Presentation at USC on Self Care

Falling into Wellness at Heal One World! What a last couple of months!

We started with being a part of the Yoga festival in Joshua Tree, Bhakti Festival. There we engaged thousands and offered cranial-sacral treatments as well as spoke about the Awareness Film Festival. We are still working on opening our wellness center there with a date of February 2015.
We were present at the Los Angeles Green Festival sharing health and wellness tips.
The Awareness Film Festival was a resounding success and we showed over 100 films with attendance over two thousand attendees! It was 10 days of films, music and art.  Winners included: The Starfish Throwers, The Kingdom Within, Love Bomb and many others. We were the Los Angeles festival premiere for the documentary film Pump featuring alternative fuel options.  Our gala honored Jim Carrey and his Better U Foundation as well as David Lynch and the David Lynch Foundation.  We are excited to have had John Raatz the founder of GATE (Global Alliance of Transformational Entertainment) in attendance as he spoke to work he along with Jim Carrey and David Lynch are doing to bring conscious media to the forefront.
We also brought on board and amazing Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner Lois Leonhardi. She is giving a free talk on how to be more balanced in your diet and lifestyle from ancient wisdom and practices proven over centuries.  She will be offering sliding scale personal one on one sessions from now on at Heal One World!
We also did kids yoga at the event Something In The Canyon in Malibu!
Glady we were able to do demonstrations of Tai Chi and Yoga at the Paramount Health Fair and we offered magazines and information on wellness matters.
I was lucky to present a very well received presentation on Self-Care at the USC Caregivers 15th annual symposium.  We have had many offers to present from this and also treat more patients and give more demonstrations around the area.
We are honored to be chosen as a 2014 Top Rated Non-Profit by Great Non-Profits and looking forward to our own health fair along with the Midtown Shopping Center and Olympic Park Neighborhood Council. There will be over 33 vendors relating to health and wellness.  We are doing bilingual demo's of Yoga, Tai Chi, Tabata, Zumba and live music, chair massages and more. We are so excited to invigorate the neighborhood and spread awareness of all that is offered in our area.
Looking forward we will be at the Sundance Festival again this year and we are offering more Tai Chi and Sound Healing classes as well as a Tai Chi Leader training and expanded work with LAMP with wellness and awareness events.

Falling into Awareness: Films, Music, Art, Healing, Retreat and new classes

Yoga at Lynwood Elementary School
Yoga at Lynwood Elementary School

As summer comes to a close and fall rolls in, Heal One World is busy bringing back and introducing exciting new programs for all of you to enjoy. Latin music and aerobic exercise: Zumba is back in session with Eva, for an hour of great musical fitness- folks are loving it! Meditation is offered by Laura Sharkey, new guided classes once a week. Yummy Yin aromatherapy with De Jur is back and now available for her yoga groupies!  Our clients bring their yoga mats, water, and spirits. This Fall, we will be conducting bilingual yoga classes at First Care in Huntington Park twice a week. We are also excited to announce that The Bresee Foundation will present youth yoga again this season. HOW is proud to introduce Kundalini Yoga with instructor Francesca Aster every Wednesday. Starting this Fall, we will again offer Tai-Chi lessons at Front Porch, Vista and Pilgrim Towers.  Senior yoga at St. Barnabas center in Pico-Union. We are also adding sound and music therapy to our open community schedule.

We recently hosted Yoga, Tai Chi, Nutrition to rave success!, a workshop at the Jordan Downs Housing Project's Community Center. The Motivated mothers club loved the classes and have asked for regular classes which we also hope to begin in the Fall. In addition, we are looking forward to working with Para Los Ninos, an educational institute dedicated to closing the achievement gap among the impoverished youth of Los Angeles.  We were happy to take part in the Lynnwood Middle School Health Fair. A Health Fair at University High School and at PACE in South Central Los Angeles.  And will be presenting at the Venice Family Clinic  (our partner) Health Fair on August 25th.

Our latest project here at HOW is now in full swing. The Veterans Project will result in total renovation of a piece of property in Joshua Tree which we hope to convert into a retreat center for those who cannot normally afford a retreat healing experience. These retreats will include yoga, tai-chi, meditation, healing foods and juices, and other healing modalities. Progress is being made quickly and we hope to unveil in late Fall.

Executive Director Skye Kelly has been elected as a Community Organization representative in the Olympic Park Neighborhood Council, where she created an Ad-hoc Wellness Committee which she will chair.  She is also collaborating to create a Health Fair in the community this November. Heal One World was honored as a nominee at the Los Angeles Business Journal's Non-Profit and Corporate Citizen Awards in June.

Lastly, it’s movie watching galore here at the healthy living center as HOW happily announces the line-up for the Fifth Annual Awareness Film Festival. Since its start in 2010, the Festival’s intent has been to promote awareness of today’s issues through the art of film. In addition, it has been the largest annual funding source for Heal One World. This years films target a variety of pressing topics such as international conflicts, gay rights, corrupt governing, environmental issue, alternative treatment to chronic diseases, racial issues, animal rights, and mental illness. Some of the feature films, shorts and documentaries we are pleased to showcase include The Starfish Throwers, Love Bomb, Pumped, One Love, The Kingdom Within, Furthest from the Wild and the Red Passage.  We hope to see you all at Awareness Fest and please feel free join our upcoming programs.

Heal One World Finalist for Healthcare Leadership Awards and NEW programs!

Great Cloth Diaper Event!
Great Cloth Diaper Event!

Exciting times at Heal OneWorld this winter and spring! We were honored to a be finalist at the Healthcare Leadership awards from the Los Angeles Business Journal.  At the awards ceremony many large organizations were also honored and we felt special to be included in this event again this year.  Recently we also hosted the great cloth diaper change event for Los Angeles with Alva baby. There was a fun great turnout followed by mommy and me yoga which is a program we are continuing on a monthly basis.  We are continuing all of our yoga classes which are becoming a bit overcrowded. This is a great problem to have and we are searching for a larger space in the nearby Los Angeles area. It maybe as soon as this fall we will be opening a larger center with two areas for classes as well as several treatment rooms and a kitchen.  We are continuing our tai chi classes and hope to post some kind of a leader training in the near future so we can spread the practice of tai chi and moving meditation.

We are looking to partner further with Front Porch beyond just continuing our classes with them as well as a new partner St. Frances Hospital., both are within the senior population. We are continuing work with the Bresee Foundation and youth as well.

Music and sound therapy are new classes that will begin this spring. Sound therapy is very powerful and we use it sometimes during our yoga classes.  A new class offered by Jovin Montenero is called Zakku! (http://zakkuspeak.com/) and is a series of practices and exercises that help us be in fully in the present as well as talking with others about our "story". These classes are taking place every week Sunday at 6:45 PM and Tuesday at 8:45 PM at Heal OneWorld studio.

We are excited to announce that we will be able to hold retreats in Joshua tree California as we are able to have a property renovated where we will be able to offer classes and retreats for people who cannot normally afford such events.

During this exciting expansion time please contact us if you have any thing that can help as far as donations of mats, flooring and furniture. We are also in need of new instructors to fill in more available times for classes.  We are excited we will be able to expand our treatments as well as nutritional guidance. This summer we are working with the Los Angeles Housing Authority to hold a workshop for women in the project housing in South Los Angeles. There we will be giving them nutritional guidance as well as showing them  yoga and tai chi practices they can continue at home.

As it is Tuesday I am heading to the Venice Family Clinic as I do every week to volunteer as a speciality consult as a part of their Tuesday Night integrative Clinic.  We also have three yoga classes a week at two locations on the west side of Los Angeles.

Wednesday May 7th 2014 is Global Givings Bonus Day where they will match 30% of all donations from 6 AM Pacific Time until the funds run out.  I invite you to consider donating on this day if you receive this in time as all of the funds go directly to our programs. Thank you so much for your support of Heal One World. Always feel free to reach us through email or on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Upcoming Event
Upcoming Event

We are super excited for our upcoming projects! The Fall so far has been projects at Bresee Foundation, fun yoga and tai chi with the youth.  A community cleanup around the studio on Pico while introducing the community to Tai Chi and Yoga. We collected over 300 cigarette butts in only 3 blocks, and several bags of waste.  Keeping it from the drains and reaching the ocean. Coming up soon we cordially invite you, if you are in the Los Angeles area, to come to our annual fundraiser, a fun Kids and Kirtters event at Paradise Cove in Malibu on November 23rd 2013, 11am-9pm.  Includes delicious food, films, kids and kritters!  Please contact us at event@healoneworld.com to reserve your ticket and ask more questions!

We are fundraising for our new Tai Chi Easy Leadership training, starting in 2014 we will be holding a Youth Building Tai Chi Leadership training to train youth to teach Tai Chi in their communities. Tai Chi Easy founder and Tai Chi master teacher, Dr. Roger Jahnke will be demoing Tai Chi in the afternoon!  We are also fundraising for our new music therapy program, starting in March of 2013. We are treating patients at Valley Community Rehab hospital, continuing with the Venice Family Clinic and Tai Chi with seniors at Front Porch. Special programs include collaborations with Let's Move! with free demonstrations around Los Angeles.

If you are you attending the Sundance Film Festival or want a product or film highlighted, we are there again this year offering free yoga, tai chi and wellness treatments to filmmakers and decision makers, making them aware of HOW and Awareness Film Festival at the Zen Den.  We are also holding a low cost clinic while in Utah, and hosting students at Zen Den.

Looking forward to 2014, we are honored to again make Great Non Profits Top Non-Profit 2013 Awards list!  Please read our reviews to get even more insight on the impact your donation has in the community.  We thank you for your support and if possible, please give to HOW as a part of your year end giving.  We will remind you, as there is also an upcoming promotion for reoccuring donations through global giving, when started at the end of December.
