Summary

The Gulf Coast Bay Buddy Program was created to inspire critical thinking skills with an emphasis on causal relationships between humans and the natural environment.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Bay Buddy is available to all students in public and private schools in Grades K-3. By learning what they can do to help protect the health of our coastal ecosystem, students forge a connection to the environment and grow into environmentally responsible adults. The need for environmental education for elementary students is critical if Alabama is to protect and preserve our precious coastal natural resources for future generations.

How will this project solve this problem?

Students learn about water quality, recycling, sanitary sewer protection & litter. Students participate in a 45 minute classroom interactive presentation led by ACF & volunteers, taking home an activity booklet to share w/ family & friends.

Potential Long Term Impact

By learning how to protect our valuable coastal resources at an early age, Bay Buddy participants can help preserve those resources for future generations to enjoy.

“Riviera Utilities is proud to support the Bay Buddy Program in Foley. In order to preserve our natural resources it is of the utmost importance to teach children these principles.
