Elvira Sanchez - Executive Director of ISMU
Elvira became a community organizer when she helped form a neighborhood group to start a childcare center. She continued working to improve community conditions and in 1992 founded a network of 14 organizations, ISMU. ISMU trains people to be community leaders and develops community centers, housing projects, programs for youth, land legalization, health education and women's microcredit.
Simon Estrada Guerra - Health Program Coordinator, APROSADSE
Simon grew up in the village of Jometes, near Cruz Nueva. 10 years ago, he applied for a loan from APROSADSE to help start a grocery store, the village's first successful social enterprise. He has worked as a staff person at APROSADSE for five years.
Milvian Aspuac - Economic Development Program Coordinator
Milvian believes that economic development must be implemented collectively, with a socially responsible vision and a focus on gender equity. She plays a leadership role in her hometown of Santiago Sacatepequez, where she motivates young women to exercise their rights as citizens. She is a member of a national commission seeking to address the economic needs of indigenous women.
