First of all, on behalf of our whole chapter, we want to thank you for all of your support. With your help we went above and beyond our goal of $5,000 and finished the GlobalGiving challenge with $5,941! It blew our minds that we were able to raise this much in just one month! On top of that, we finished our whole year off with an unbelievable total of $13,361!!
We are also pleased to inform you that our GROW (Grassroots On-site Work) interns made it safely to Peru this past week. In Peru they will be strengthening our chapter's relationship with our partner, Kallpa Iquitos. So far the team has been exploring the different neighborhoods that make up Iquitos and becoming familiar with this new country. In this short amount of time the GROW members have also met with one of Iquitos’ youth groups to meet them and discuss their plans for the future in a way to start building relationships with these youth.
Throughout the rest of their trip our team will see how the money we've raised is helping our partner Kallpa and the community of Iquitos, Peru. Our interns will be helping Kallpa with a new sexual health program, starting the building of a more stable youth community center, and continuing to finance the garbage collection micro-business. Additionally, along with Kallpa, they will be drafting up a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will be completed this fall. This is an agreement between our chapter and Kallpa regarding expenses and money raised and how everything will be broken down. With your support all of this is possible. Thank you!!!
