River clean ups and gatherings for teaching by indigenous elders brought in from around the globe. Water experts, drumming, and children speaking also. Hundreds will be in the Fort Collins event, thousands global.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
Clean water is disappearing globally. Rivers are polluted around the world. And many people are still unaware of this. Putting our children and grandchildrens' very lives at risk. In Fort Collins, Colorado, efforts for years have been undertaken to clean the Poudre River running through it. Sanctuaries will participate in the clean up and add educational elements from diverse people from around the world. And add projects from our supporters globally. Our children and theirs' will benefit.
How will this project solve this problem?
The project will be global - focused in Fort Collins, CO. Radio and video beginning winter 2014 about the problem and solutions. Clean-up projects in the spring 2014. More virtual teaching and sharing of the projects globally post-event. And educational materials produced for schools and youth groups. Sanctuaries is already global in nature and can broadcast to millions. Combining the virtual world with the hands on projects is the way of the future. Go to www.SOTEM.org for more.
Potential Long Term Impact
As Sanctuaries has grown its' support and base to thousands over the past 2 years, it has added programs and events for people to participate in globally. Now we are looking at water as something we need to get people to understand the importance of. And share ways to create and maintain clean water so our children can live. This is only one of many such issues Sanctuaries will approach thru its' networks and sources over time. And as we do more, the circle will continue to expand.
