Dear Friends of TakingITGlobal, Thanks to your generosity in the last three months, we have continued to support educators’ participation in our global education professional development opportunities. Our team cannot thank you enough. One bright young man from Bumpe, Sierra Leone, Joseph Hindogbae (a.k.a. “Hindo”), expressed great interest in our “Education for Environmental Stewardship” e-course, and we were thrilled to be able to support him on a full scholarship. The course is not only benefiting him, but his contributions to the e-course have been enlightening for his fellow participants. Here, he makes an important link between human health and the environment: “Things here are a little different from the developed countries… It’s a little bit difficult, and many people are not aware [of] how the environment actually impacts society or their lives… If you bring a tin outside your house full of water, a mosquito will lay eggs there, and then you have a great chance of getting malaria.” For Hindo, this void in practical environmental education has served as a catalyst to bring environmental issues into his high school classroom, where he teaches History and Government. We are excited about his future. As the holiday season approaches, we hope you will extend your generosity to continue supporting wonderful educators like Hindo. A donation to support an educator in an emerging country would make a great gift! $25 would cover the participation cost of an educator like Hindo in one online session of a five-week long e-course. Best of all, if you sign up for a recurring donation during December, GlobalGiving will match your first month’s donation, and we’ll be eligible for bonus funds! Please give generously this holiday season.
