With the support of GlobalGiving, RACOBAO is training a teacher with skills in making sanitary pads using local materials available in resource limited settings. This project has already supported young girls with sanitary pads aimed at avoiding absenteeism from school during their menstruation periods .The senior women are taught how to sew sanitary towels from available cloth materials which skills they are expected to pass over to young girls in their communities. The young girls will gain skills and capacity of making their own pads as a cost effective and sustainable strategy to maintain enrollment and retention of young girls in school. Without sanitary pads, young girls often get embarrassed when they soil their uniforms during their monthly period. This problem makes young girls hate and miss school which affects their performance. These pads are made from user friendly and easily accessible materials. The pads can be washed and used again almost instantly. This training has already started and we are hoping for a prosperous outcome. RACOBAO together with young girls are very grateful for the global giving funders for the work of keeping the vulnerable girls in school.
